Table Top-24 x 48 (GT2448TPE)
The GT2448TPE Table Top 24 x 48 can be used for both workbenches and table tops. This top is unique in that it is constructed of laminated bamboo. It has a very dense hard work surface which will last a lifetime. The Table Top is 24″ deep x 48″ long x 1 1/2″ high and the front has a top rounded edge. There are five layers of bamboo lamination with each layer running in a different direction providing superior strength yet a natural work surface. GarageTek’s bamboo table tops are manufactured using a water based solvent adhesive not urea formaldehyde. The color is natural and similar to beech wood in appearance. All the surfaces have been ded glass smooth and clear coated with a hard ultra violet cured finish. You will see more and more applications of bamboo used as a substitute for wood in the future for the following reasons. Bamboo construction can be considered eco friendly and a highly renewable material source. It needs little or no irrigation no pesticides and no fertilizer and can sequester up to 70% more carbon per year than a hardwood forest. Bamboo can grow up to 78 feet in 50 days ready for harvest in 3 years compared to hardwoods needing 20-100 years to mature for harvest. Bamboo is harvested without the need to replant because the root system is left intact to grow again. Its horizontal root system holds the soil in place preventing erosion. (Ironically bamboo is restricted for use as an ornamental garden plant in many communities in the US because of its fast growth root system can grow out of control and be evasive.) Bamboo has the natural beauty of hardwoods and the hardness durability of oaks and maples. It is resistant to most insects and moisture. There is an argument that bamboo does not have a zero carbon footprint because of the transportation costs getting it from its manufacturing source (usually China) to consumer in the US.
